Bald eagles are at home near seacoasts, lakes, or rivers, where fish make up their primary diet. Most bald eagles in the United States are found in Alaska, where this photograph was taken. An eagle develops its distinctive white head and tail after four or five years. Until then, their overall brown feathers cause people to confuse them with golden eagles.
